Antique Czech viola, Carl Hammerschmid, Wakkenreuth/Fleissen
This beautiful antique Czech viola of sound was built around 1900 by Carl Hammerschmidt in Wakkenreuth/Fleissen, it is labeled accordingly, patterened after a Stradivarius model with medium archings. The purfling was thoroughly inlaid and indicates good craftsmanship, just as the carefully selected, quality tonewoods, that are decorated by the very transparent golden-brown varnish with beautifully made antiqueings. Regular, medium grained spruce was chosen for the top and deeply flamed maple for the two-piece back. This beautiful Carl Hammerschmidt viola has a minor repair to the outer f-wing and is otherwise preserved in excellent condition and - like all old stringed instruments from Corilon violins - it has been worked over by our luthiers, who made it ready to play. The viola features a recommendably beautiful, warm, well-rounded sound with good volume and a deep viola character.
