Antique, mid 19th century violin from Klingenthal, approx. 1850
This antique mid 19th century violin with a mature, clear, exceptional sound is a well-preserved piece of flawless craftsmanship from the town of Klingenthal in Saxony, where it was built approx. 1850. The light-brown varnish was thinly applied over a light ground as it is typical for the violin-making-tradition influenced by the great Hopf workshops at the time. The varnish developed interesting patina and determines the antique appearance of this highly recommendable Klingenthal violin. The scroll is full of character and demonstrates the skills of a well-educated hand, just as the nice purfling, that was neatly executed. We recommend this antique 19th century violin for its exceptional sound in this price range - a clear, dark, responsive sound, a nmature and resonant, powerful voice rich in overtones, that is ready to play after a complete work-over in our atelier for violin making and restoration in Munich. The violin has no cracks or damage.
