1/2 English violin by J. Brown
This English 1/2 sized violin is a true collector´s piece with a unique shape that is reminiscent of experimental viola da gamba-like designs as they were created by Antoine Marius Richelme and others. The instrument offered here was built in the late 19th century in England and bears the original label of J. Brown, with the handwritten number 7259. The large scroll completes the eyecatching, individual appearance of the violin, that features a surprisingly large sound, warm and bright, rich in volume and with some sweet character. Several repairs indicate that the former owners of this interesting children´s violin loved its voice and that it was often played. Aside from the grafted scroll there are some restorations of the pegbox, the table and the back, that have no influence on the violin´s sound and were done by an experienced hand. Our luthiers thoroughly worked over this violin that is offered ready to play.
