Fine Klingenthal violin by Friedrich August Glass (sold)
A fine antique mid 19th century master violin made by Friedrich August Glass. The violin was made in Klingenthal around 1840. Friedrich August Glass was a talented maker whos skilled work gave rise to a revival of the glory of violin making in the Markneukirchen/Klingenthal area in Germany in the 19th century. The violin has been extensively played and so there is heavy wear to the varnish and wood at the typical positions. There are four uncritical repairs to the top, but no soundpost or bassbar damages. The differentiated sound is sweet and mature, with beautiful volume in the lower ranges and clear, resonant sweetness in the higher ranges. Special recommendation.
