Fine master bow from Markneukirchen, approx. 1910

This fine German master bow, which we acquired along with a bow by the great Eugène Sartory, comes from a “good neighbourhood.” This excellent piece by an unknown master was made around 1910 in Markneukirchen and played as a back-up to the Sartory. The round unstamped stick is crafted of exquisite brown pernambuco and has an ebony frog with genuine silver fittings, a mother-of-pearl eye and a white-green colored mother-of-pearl slide. The delicately crafted tip of the head and the frog show traces of restorations to the wood that were thoroughly inspected by our luthiers, who ascertained the solidity of these repairs. The bow is perfectly calibrated and has its balance point well-centered, slightly tending towards the frog. This bow of 58.3 g in weight is ready to demonstrate outstanding playing qualities and creates a lush, clear and sharp sound.
