fine viola, probably by Joseph Klimits
A fine old 19th century viola sized 39,9 cm. The viola was likely made by Joseph Klimits in Vienna around 1860. It is is stamped JK above the saddle under the tailpiece and further stamped 50 above the end button. The varnish is a rich oil varnish of a deep red color, the varnish is beautifully craquelled. This old viola is a high quality instrument in perfect and completely undamaged condition. It has been set up by our luthier with a new bridge, soundpost and strings. This violas noble sound is dark and clear, not particularly loud. Suitable for chamber music.
