Older German viola bow, silver mounted - frog
Older German viola bow, silver mounted - head

Good quality 1980's German viola bow, silver mounted - warm, large tone

This silver mounted German viola bow bears an undecipherable brandstamp on shaft, it is a good quality handmade viola bow from the Markneukirchen region in Germany, made late in the 20th century in approx. 1980. The bow is of good weight - 67.1 g - and a strong, yet active, comfortable player that works very well with most violas. The French style ebony frog is silver mounted with pearl eye and pearl slide. The octagonal stick is made of red brown pernambuco wood. The balance point feels well slightly shifted towards the head, and is measured at 25.6 cm of a total length of 74.8 cm, measured including the adjuster. This very good viola bow plays strongly and forgiving, yet tense and active and produces a powerful, large, warm and clear tone.
