Modern Mittenwald violin by Mathias Hornsteiner (sold)
This unique violin was handmade by Mathias Hornsteiner in the Bavarian Mittenwald. The young Hornsteiner made the instrument in the year 1952 after the model of Guarnerius. He used only high-grade tonewoods from the surrounding woods and worked them up in the traditional Mittenwald style. Back and top are both bipartite, the flames of the back are a masterpiece of nature. Due to its untainted condition with glossy, transparent varnish in warm and bright golden tones, the instrument seems to come right out of the luthier‘s workshop. Last but not least the very good tonal qualities of the violin are of noteworthy quality and character: It sounds warm, matured, clear and open.
