corilon violins

Modern English baroque violin by J. P. Giddings

This beautiful contemporary violin has an exceptionally powerful voice for a baroque instrument. It was made in the English tradition and based on an Amati. English luthier J. P. Giddings built this authentic baroque-style violin in High Easter, Essex, in 2000. Fine-grained spruce was selected for the top and deeply flamed maple for the two-piece back and ribs; the tonewoods are of superb quality. The fingerboard and tailpiece are veneered and handmade. The violin features typical stylistic elements of the English school like the prominent scroll and the neat cornerwork. This baroque violin has gut strings and a baroque bridge, making it ideal for playing early music. The violin's full sound is strong and well-balanced.
