corilon violins

Rare old Italian 1800's Abruzzo violin

An instrument of distinctive beauty with an exceptional and seldom-encountered sound, this violin was built around 1800 in the heart of Italy, the Abruzzo region. Its rich yet transparent yellow-gold varnish draws the eye to the intricate grain of the top. An unknown master gave this violin a unique style with its antiquated aesthetic, unusually cut sound holes and the inlays set far from the edges. It had some worm damage which has been repaired and has not affected the powerful sound of the instrument — golden and buttery, remarkably rich in volume and size.
