Antique German violin by Wolff brothers, Kreuznach
This very distinctive antique violin was made by Leopold and Ferdinand Wolff, better known as the Wolff brothers, in Kreuznach in 1910. An original dated label indicates the instrument as a replica of the Stradivari model. Being in more than perfect, virtually mint conditon, the full beauty of the magnificently golden brown varnished tonewoods comes into its own. The wide-grained spruce of the top and the regularly flamed maple of the back are complemented by a decent antique finish. The Wolff Bros. enjoyed (and still enjoy) an excellent reputation and their instruments were especially popular and successful on the British isles. This late work of the two brothers was also treated with their secret "special tonal improvement", for it sounds warm, bright and slightly sweetish.
