corilon violins

19th century French violin, J.T.L. ateliers

France is the origin of this antique appearing violin of character. The instrument is a handmade piece of work of the late 19th century - the violin likely originates from the workshops of Jerôme Thibouville-Lamy (J.T.L.) in Mirecourt. Typical features of 19th century J.T.L. instruments are the irregular wide grained spruce of the top, scratched purflings and well pronounced flutings. The golden brown varnish is thinly applied and highly patinated, reflecting the violin's genuine antique appearance. The general condition of the instrument is excellent, the violin is completely undamaged and crackfree. It was professionally set up by our luthier with new rosewood pegs, new strings, a new bridge and soundpost, chinrest and tailpiece. The violins rich rounded tone is clear and strong, with sweet clarity in the higher registers and warm maturity in the lower ranges.
