Stradivari copy by François Alexis Maline

François Alexis Maline (the father) worked in Mirecourt, from 1850 to 1880. Around 1850 was this unique full size violin made - a fine Maline copy of Antonius Stradivarius "Hellier". The classy appearance of the the beautifully flamed one-piece back and the fine-grown spruce of the top is perfected with the characteristic double purfling made of ebony and nacre. The delicate tonewoods are covered with a shiny golden orange varnish, the tailpiece and the chinrest are made of precious boxwood. The violin is stamped °MALINE PERE à PARIS°, but more likely it originates from his time in Mirecourt - it was a common practice of Mirecourt makers to state Paris as the place of emanation. The violin is in excellent condition, two well made repairs are invisible to the unexperienced eye. This violin has an outstanding bright ringing sound of power and dominance.
