Thomas Simon: Mittenwald violin, c.1850, with a powerful, ringing sound

This extremely powerful mid 19th century Mittenwald violin is a typical Mittenwald crafted violin of premium tone woods from the Karwendel mountains, so called "moon wood" that was harvested during a particular lunar phase. This recommendable Mittenwald violin was crafted early in the 19th century around 1850 and bears a Thomas Simon label, it was probably labeled and sold by this Mittenwald maker who is known to have mainly made guitars. A quality 19th century Mittenwald instrument that shows top-quality artisanry; the body has no cracks and is in very good condition, with meticulous purfling and beautifully patinated and darkend deep red-brown varnish. The powerful, clear sound of this antique Mittenwald violin is highly recommendable, a warm and mature voice, rich in overtones and very responsive. This good instrument was set up and worked over by our luthiers and is in immediate playing condition.
