corilon violins

3/4-sized French violin with "Ch. U. a Paris" label

This solidly built French 3/4-sized violin bears the label “Ch. U. à Paris”, which is a provenance unknown to us, but it was clearly made by an experienced luthier who masterfully shaped the arching of the top and back and carved the scroll in a unique and distinctive style. The original, mysterious label indicates that the violin was made in Paris, yet its intensely red varnish and drawn-on purfling are more suggestive of Mirecourt, the famous violin-making city. This perfectly preserved instrument has been made ready to play by our luthier. Its special features include a good and easy response that facilitates fluid playing and a bright, clear sound that is rich in overtones, assertive and well-balanced across all of the strings.
