Antique German violin from Saxony, classical model, approx. 1880
This antique 19th century German violin is a classical instrument with an unmistakable German Saxonian provenance. It was built approx. 1880 in Markneukirchen, the famous center of violin making in the Vogtland region. The instrument clearly shows its origin with characteristical model with its woods purfling and corners. It was built after a Stradivari model with medium ribs at flat arch. The carefully executed purfling is a work of skilled craftsmanship, that was made by an unknown luthier. The beautiful, orange-brown varnish bears traces of intensive playing, as are typical for antique violins with good musical qualities. Besides these traces of use the violin is in undamaged condition and was carefully worked over in our atelier for violin making and restoration, where it was made it ready to play. With precise and immediate response the warm, large and bright sound of the violin unfolds, that bears good volume and is well balanced across the strings.
