This fine H. R. Pfretzschner violin bow is an especially fine piece by H. R. Pfretzschner, made in Markneukirchen in the early 20th century. H.R. Pfretzschners name, which is of excellent reputation, is confirmed by the original brandstamps on shaft and on the frog. The octagonal stick is made of finest dark pernambuco wood and features a perfect combination of tension and elasticity. The ebony frog features a Parisian eye and is silver mounted with best quality silver, originally stamped. This recommendable H. R. Pfretzschner bow is undamaged, it was expertly made ready to play and features an overall length of 74.4 cm, with a measured balance-point at 25.0 cm from the frog end. The sensed balance-point is well-centered with a slight tendance towards the frog, so that the bow feels much lighter in the hand that its actual weight may suggest. A well preserved H. R. Pfretzschner violin bow that produces a warm, bright and direct, rounded, large and delicate sound and offers agile virtuoso playing properties.
