Violin bow by James Tubbs featuring the original stamp JAS TUBBS 

English bow maker James Tubbs (1835-1921) crafted this perfect beauty of a violin bow in the early 20th century. It is a mature masterpiece dating from the central phase of his career. Pernambuco of the finest quality was used to make this moderately thick and elastic stick with the round profile which is typical of James Tubbs. It bears his personal stamp “JAS TUBBS” that he had used since the late 1870s to prevent his works being confused with those of his brother John. The relatively light weight of this bow, only 55.1 g, is perfectly distributed; the balance point inclines slightly towards the top and is measured at 25.3 cm of the total length of 74.5 cm (including the button). Its elegant features — a silver-mounted ebony frog and a silver tip plate — quietly draw attention to the quality of this James Tubbs violin bow in a fashion that all the more effective because of its subtlety. Its clear sound is rounded off with a gentle undertone, precise and well defined. The bow was worked over thoroughly by our luthiers and is offered ready to play, a certificate issued by the renowned expert Hieronymus Köstler is included in the price.
