Fine French 7/8 violin, approx. 1900, probably Jerome Thibouville-Lamy

This fine French 7/8 violin is suitable for highly demanding players and indeed a rarity - it was built approx. 1880 in the French violin making town Mirecourt and is one of the premium quality works that originates most likely from the famous workshops of Jérôme Thibouville-Lamy (J.T.L.). The traditional company was at the pinnacle of its international success in these years and offered an exchange guarantee for any instrument that was not completely satisfying their customers. This was a quite self-reliant promise that seems needless in the light of the premium quality of the beautiful late 19th century 7/8 violin offered here. Its elegant, unmistakable French appearance is determined by the typical shape of the body and scroll, the shining and highly transparent light-brown varnish that features antique patina and many traces of intensive playing, and finally by the excellent tonewoods. Quality spruce was chosen for the top, adeeply flamed maple for the one piece back. The purfling and the soundholes are examples of careful and experienced craftsmanship by the luthiers. Our violin makers spent great time and effort to work over this strong and mature sounding 7/8 violin, that is preserved in crack-free condition and unfolds its visual antique beauty as well as its large, mature sound, that is noble and warm, precise and features some dark note.
