Antique Mittenwald violin. Made c.1900 for Karl Kiendl Vienna.

This lovely antique Mittenwald violin was crafted in the violin making town of Mittenwald around the turn of the century. It was sold by Karl Kiendl in Vienna and bears his label, dated 1906. It is a well and delicately constructed instrument with features appreciated by many male violinists — a rather strong neck, a strong ringing sound and a flat arch of the top and back. The expressive and very skilled carving of the scroll communicates an individual Mittenwald style which suits the historic aesthetic of the intense and deep-red varnish. The patina harmonises with the instrument's interesting personality. Our experienced violin makers have approved and set the violin up completrely so that it is now ready to play. This good Mittenwald violin's clear open sound is warm and bright, with a sweet note to it.
