Concert master choice! - Such delicate and detailed artisanry and the articulate elegance of this nearly 15 year old Bolognese violin by Gianni Norcia are exceptional even for contemporary Italian string instruments of the moderate price and quality category. Its well-carved expressive scroll, finely crafted purfling and mild flames of the two-piece maple back define the aesthetic of this dynamic Italian violin, which is crowned by shiny and intensely luminous oil varnish. The transparent golden-orange-brown varnish serves as the grace note to the tasteful style of this instrument, which bears the original label and brand mark of its truly interesting master. With this mid quality violin piece, Gianni Norcia created yet an outstanding result that clearly and unmistakably belongs to the violin making tradition of Bologna. Gianni Norcia, a student of the great Otello Bignami, has had his own workshop since 1970, where he crafts both stringed and plucked instruments in keeping with the finest Italian artisanal tradition, always oriented towards his great role models Giuseppe Fiorini, Gaetano Pollastri and Ansaldo Poggi. His participation in numerous competitions and awards from highly regarded Italian exhibitions are evidence of the esteem Norcia enjoys amongst experts, a fact which is also reflected in the portrait of him in Jost Thöne's collection "Contemporary Violin Makers – Vol. 1" (Jost Thöne Verlag, 2015). Now that the specialists at our workshop have thoroughly set up this exquisite Italian instrument from a technical and acoustic perspective, it is ready to play. The radiant tone of this Gianni Norcia violin is rich in overtones, balanced across all strings, bright and warm, featuring perfect responsiveness and an inimitably Italian note.
