Master violin bow, Knopf family/circle, 19th century

This fine violin bow is a disctinctive work of the Knopf family in Markneukirchen. The piece was crafted in the late 19th century and has a somewhat soft and springy stick of dark brown pernambuco. The elegant, upright head has a distinctive character to it; the ebony frog has a Pearl eye and fittings of genuine silver. Masterful craftsmanship can be seen in the central weight distribution of the round stick; the balance point is measured at 26.8 cm including the length of the adjuster. The bow is 74.3 cm in length, and the bow weighs a total of 56.5 g. This is a wonderful second bow for demanding musicians and is in perfect condition. It has a warm, bright and somewhat mellow sound of volume that is fluid and resonant.
