Antique 19th century Mittenwald violin, approx. 1870

This excellent historic Mittenwald violin was built in the mid 19th century around 1870 and it is of the finest tonal quality and very good craftsmanship. The unknown luthier who probably worked for the house of Neuner & Hornsteiner selected premium tone woods for which the Mittenwald violin making region is well known: moderately grained Karwendel spruce was used for the top, the one piece back is made of mildly flamed sycamore maple. The violin varnish shows many traces from time and playing, it is highly ptinated and of a wonderfully rich dark red colour. The violin shows many, expressive traces of use that are fitting for a well-played instrument of its quality and age. The attractive scroll was meticulously crafted. Despite many - attractive - signs from playing this fine quality Mittenwald violin has been preserved in remarkably good condition and has no cracks to the body; it was thoroughly set up by our luthiers and is after a meticulous workover now ready to play. Its voice is powerful and warm, large and resonant, well balanced and strong. Its rapid response allows musicians to play precisely and with focus.
