This master violin is a top-quality instrument from Germany's Vogtland region. It was made around 1920 for the important instrument merchant C. A. Wunderlich in Markneukirchen-Siebenbrunn. Wunderlich purchased his instruments from the finest masters of the region, even though their names were never cited. The fact that the craftsmen's names were not used as a selling point is further evidence of the major influence that such traditional Saxonian businesses had. This particular violin by an anonymous master is a work of perfect quality which was patterned after a Stradivari model with the utmost of expert precision. The moderately grained spruce of the top and the flamed maple of the two-piece and beautifully symmetrical back are exceptionally well chosen; the well-crafted scroll is a lovingly rendered work that is rich in detail. Its appearance, which is full of character, is marked by bright, luminous, golden-orange varnish with only a few scratches and traces of use. The very low price at which we are offering this instrument is due to the two professionally repaired cracks in the top, neither of which have any effect whatsoever on the violin's musical qualities.
