William Richard Retford, fine English Violin for W.E. Hill & Sons (certificate J.F. Raffin)

This fine English violin bow is an example of flawless artisanry from the renowned house of W. E.Hill & Sons, London . The bow was made by William Richard Retford (1899-1960), one of the best makers with Hill's. The bow bears the original W. E. Hill & Sons stamp on shaft above the frog, as well as a number 31 below the frog. The headplate is made of silver, the fine round stick excellently crafted of brown pernambuco wood. An ebony frog with silver mounting and a Parisian eye decorates this true masterpiece, that produces a large, full-bodied sound that features a slightly mellow tone. It was worked over thoroughly by our experienced luthiers, who made it ready to play. The bow´s provenance is proven by a certificate of authenticity and an evaluation for € 10.000 by the renowned expert Jean-François Raffin, Paris.
