3/4 - German 3/4 violin by Boosey & Hawkes

This good 3/4 violin was made by an unknown German Markneukirchen workshop in the 1920s and was imported to England by the music publisher and merchant Hawkes & Son; the original Boosey & Hawkes label reading “The Metro Amati” must have been applied in 1930 or a bit later, after Hawkes joined forces with the large rival publisher John Boosey. The merger led to the Boosey & Hawkes company, which continues to dominate the market today. This instrument is the product of good-quality hand craftsmanship and is undamaged and free of cracks, featuring a few typical traces of use. The glossy and deeply luminous reddish-brown varnish complements the even and distinctive texture of the spruce used for the top, giving it a lovely antiqued aesthetic, while also creating magnificent accents against the tight flaming of the two-piece back. Our violinmakers have completely worked over the instrument and fitted it with new pegs, bridge, tailpiece and Pirastro strings which allow its bright, warm and open sound to unfold beautifully.
