Antique Czech Schönbach violin by Wenzel Hoyer, dated 1903

This fine violin is an especially beautiful Czech instrument made by Wenzel Hoyer, it is one of his most late works dated 1903, probably it was dated by one of his followers when the violin was sold after his death in 1900. It was made in Schönbach / Bohemia and it bears the original label. The glossy varnish is a rich oil varnish of an intensely shining bright golden orange brown color. The varnish that bears skillfully made antique touches and imitates the famous Cremonese varnish strikingly is of premium quality, with wear from intensive playing at the typical places. The fine quality woods are fine quality fine grained spruce for the top, the one piece back of flamed maple. This powerful yet warm and radiant sounding violin is preserved in excellent condition, the body is crackfree, an old and well visible but solid repair to the G peg in the pegbox is the only flaw. We offer it after a meticulous workover in our atelier for violin making and restoration in best playing condition. Her bright, powerful, mature and ringing sound is of excellent power, warmth, clarity and maturity.
