Old, warm sounding French violin, Mirecourt, 1920's
Mirecourt in the Vosges department, France, is considered as the capital of French violin making, where early manufactories were established producing high quality instruments. Many of those are imitating patterns of Stradivari, violin presented here was built after a less common Galgiano model as indicated by the label. Built around 1920, this old French violin is an especially good sounding piece, with its warm, clear, strong and radiant sound that is well-balanced, precise, rich in overtones and with enough assertiveness. The two-piece back is made of mildly flamed sycamore maple and has a typically French bulge. This beautiful Mirecourt violin is offered with a minor repair above the left soundhole in very good condition, and like all old stringed instruments from Corilon violins, completely worked over in our atelier.
