Antique French Mirecourt violin, approx. 1920 - warm, somewhat mellow tone

This unmistakably French Mirecourt violin with its attractively antique appearance was crafted in the 1920's in Mirecourt, the famous violin-making town in the Vosges Mountains. The same region also provided the beautiful tonewoods for the instrument, which was patterned after a model by Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume as indicated on the label. The luminous orange-brown spirit oil varnish shows slight signs from playing and patination; the deeply carved scroll is distinctly French in character. The violin makers in our workshop have thoroughly gone over this undamaged old stringed instrument, set it up and made it ready to play to a high standard. The warm, somewhat mellow yet clear sound of this violin has a mature, ringing undertone and is very well balanced and resonant: it is a good example of the high tonal standards of the French violin-making tradition.
