Old French Mirecourt violin, c.1910 after Nicolo Gagliano

This unmistakably French Mirecourt violin with its attractively antique appearance was crafted in the 1910's in Mirecourt, the famous violin-making town in the Vosges Mountains. The same region also provided the beautiful tonewoods for the instrument, which was patterned after a model by Nicolo Gagliano. The luminous orange-brown varnish shows slight signs from playing and patination and some marks on the lower part of table (considered in the price); the deeply carved scroll is distinctly French in character. The violin makers in our workshop have thoroughly gone over this gorgeous, undamaged French "Gagliano-violin", set it up and made it ready to play to a high standard. The warm, large, rounded yet clear sound of this violin has a mature, ringing undertone and is very well balanced, sweet and resonant: it is a good example of the high tonal standards of the French violin-making tradition.
