3/4 violin by J.T.L. Compagnon

This particularly pretty French 3/4-sized violin was made in the ateliers of Jerôme Thibouville-Lamy in Mirecourt in approximately 1900. It was part of the “Compagnon” line, a very successful J.T.L series that can be compared to his famous “Médio Fino” instruments. The violin top is crafted of moderately grained spruce, while the two-piece back of sycamore maple features beautiful and even flaming – good tone woods covered by a warm, bright varnish in a golden orange brown. In its perfectly maintained condition, the violin can be played immediately and was fitted with a new bridge, sound post, ebony tailpiece and Pirastro strings. Its sound expresses full and dark facets that are powerful, with a somewhat gentle and sweet note to them. We can warmly recommend this instrument.
