This instrument is a good sounding old French 7/8 violin by Jerome Thibouville-Lamy (J.T.L.). The violin bears a "copie de" label indicating the basic model of the work. Inside, the violin bears the original JTL stamp on the top block. The woods are especially beautiful: the one piece violin top is made of mediun grained spruce, the one piece back of attractive maple. the transparent varnish is of a warm golden red-brown color over a golden ground. The varnish shows extensive wear from playing (obviously, the 7/8 violin has been regularly played by a very good player). The instrument is undamaged and crackfree. It has been overhauled by our luthier and is set up with new pegs, a new bridge, soundpost and strings. The 7/8 violin's clear sound is of good strength, warmth and beautiful resonance. The sound is remarkably well-balanced and the violin is convenient to play.
