Antique Mittenwald violin by Korbinian Rieger, 1852

This historic Southern German Mittenwald violin was crafted by Korbinian Rieger in 1852. This violin is one of the superior quality instruments by Korbinian Rieger that he sold under his own name and label and that is unmistakably part of the Mittenwald tradition. There is doubt that this antique violin comes from the famous Bavarian violin-making town, given its typical style with a reddish-brown varnish and a well-proportioned scroll. Elegant artisanry can also be seen in the purfling, the two-piece back of mildly flamed maple and the small, elegantly cut soundholes.
