Old English violin, C.S. Thirlby, 1907

This 1900's English violin with a powerful voice is a typical representation of the English tradition labeled C.S. Thirlby, Romsey, and dated 1907. The broad model with prominent archings reveal its English provenance. The maker used particularly beautiful woods: the symmetrical pattern of the mildly flamed maple of the two-piece back and the ribs give the master violin a greatly individual character, which the small, neatly carved scroll completes. The richly applied bordeaux red-brown oil varnish shows strong craquellation. This unique English violin is crackfree and in very good condition. It has been meticulously worked over in our violin making atelier and is offered ready to play. The violin projects well and the sound is clear, precise, somewhat dark and full of character.
