This top-quality western Bohemian violin was made in approximately 1920 at the Schönbach ateliers of Franz Anton Hausmann (1870-1931). His company, which specialised in crafting and selling musical instruments, only existed for a generation: F. A. Hausmann's son Karl (1896-1962) and grandson Ottomar (b. 1923) were exiled from Czechoslovakia after WWII, at which time they settled in Mittenwald and established a family violin-making business there. The strikingly lovely appearance of this violin is shaped by its bright, luminous orange varnish which is a marvellous coat for the well-chosen wood. This violin also holds its own when you take a closer look at the details of the handcraftsmanship: the work of a meticulous and experienced violin maker is clearly evident in the delicate purfling very close to the edges of the instrument and the customised carving of the scroll. Acoustically speaking, this violin will win you over with its balanced, bright, warm, open sound which features a gentle undertone. As all of our violins, this instrument was worked over by our luthier and is ready to play.
