Modern Italian violin from Cremona, Luise Scharnick

This elegant contemporary Italian violin was built in Cremona in 1981 by Luise Scharnick, a German violin maker whose original label it bears. Luise Scharnick studied under Francesco Bissolotti, a renowned master luthier who closely collaborated with his friend Simone Fernando Saccone, a key member of Rembert Wurlitzer's staff in New York. Saccone came from the Degani violin-making tradition. He encouraged the Cremona school of violin making and Bissolotti in particular to return to the classic works of the old Cremona master luthiers, whose principles Saccone had studied intensively under Wurlitzer. The Luise Scharnick violin that we offer here is consequently a product of that highly interesting branch of the contemporary Italian violin-making tradition. It is unquestionably a masterpiece, built with the utmost care down to the last detail. Exceptionally well-chosen tonewoods, fine purfling and a very beautiful oil varnish distinguish this extraordinary instrument, whose musical qualities would suit a serious soloist—a perfect violin for competitions in the hands of a talented musician. We offer this instrument in excellent condition; it has been thoroughly gone over by our luthier and made ready to play. We recommend this violin for its bright, clear, powerful voice that is both mature and unmistakably Italian in character.
