In the time around the turn of the century, the instruments by Johann Baptist Schweitzer were highly appreciated internationally due to their excellent musical qualities, and especially in the violin making region of Markneukirchen many violin makers and manufactories imitated his style. The antique violin offered here was crafted in one of these workshops and bears a corresponding label that indicates that it was built after J. B. Schweitzer patterns, and indeed it is a very successful, nice violin with a strong and warm, beautiful sound. The solid skills of the unknown violin maker are evident in the elegant scroll, the purfling that was executed close to the edges and the dark brown colored varnish that features tasteful antique touches. Our luthiers spent time and effort to work over this violin that is preserved undamaged in perfect condition, a convincing instrument with a warm dark voice, that is rich in overtones and immediately ready to play.
