In the traditional Bavarian violinmaking town of Mittenwald, the workshop of luthier Wilfried Leonhardt ranks amongst the names which have transcended national and international borders. Born in Markneukirchen in 1933, the master violin maker took on the family business from his teacher and father-in-law Anton Dietl in 1968, and from that time on, the atelier (which is still family-run by Rainer Leonhardt to this day) began to specialise in cellos. This 3/4 cello for sale bears Wilfried Leonhardt's original label in the body. As an instrument of particularly high quality, it has been branded with the family seal, a lyre in a circle, which can be seen on the outside of the back below the button. The moderately to broadly-grained spruce of the top and the maple of the two-piece back with its strong and interesting flaming are tone woods which reflect a refined sense of taste and experienced craftsmanship. The ribs and expressively carved scroll are equally pleasing to the eye. An attractive, luminously orange-brown varnish complements the 3/4 cello's aesthetic. Some traces of use can be seen on the top. We received the instrument in undamaged condition and have set it up completely in our atelier. The cello's warm and somewhat gentle sound is highly recommended, and the volume is surprisingly full for a 3/4 cello.
