Mario Gadda (1931-2008) shows in this violoncello from 1982 his personal style in the succession of Stefano Scarampella - a rare work of the important master of modern Italian violin making.

In the oeuvres of many violin makers, the genre of the violoncello takes an honorable second place to the violin - but it is here that the outstanding exponents of their art reveal important aspects of their work and prove their mastery in the face of the special acoustic challenges of cello making. Thus, this Italian cello by Mario Gadda is also imbued with his personal style, which grew out of the tradition of Stefano Scarampella. Even the choice he made from the first-class tonewoods of his workshop is an artistic statement: the even, fine- to medium grained spruce of the top is contrasted by the wild, powerful flaming of the two-piece maple back and ribs, which is effectively accentuated by the brilliant red-brown varnish. The fine craftsmanship of his well thought-out model, matured over decades of experience on the artistic legacy of his father Gaetano Gadda, determines all the details on this Gadda cello, the sound of which exceeds the high expectations raised by its aesthetic appearance: large and with velvety warmth, it opens up a wide musical space for sophisticated interpretations of cello literature from all epochs - ready to play immediately after a thorough inspection in our workshop.
