Old German-Bohemian cello, Saxony, around 1900

This very sonorous German-Bohemian cello was built in Saxony/Bohemia in the 1900s. The origin is probably Markneukirchen or Schönbach. Antiqued, golden-brown varnish was applied to the two-piece top of medium grained spruce and the one-piece back of mildly flamed maple; the purfling is very nice, the scroll is attractively crafted.
