This Markneukichen 3/4 violin was made in 1936 in the highly regarded Markneukirchener atelier of Louis Dölling jun. It is unmistakably a superior quality piece whose provenance is confirmed by a dated original label. After the death of the atelier's founder in 1917, Dölling's family continued to run the business under his good name and carry on the legacy of the cosmopolitan master. The intensely radiant oil varnish with its golden-yellow to red tones are a striking reflection of the instrument's quality, which has been preserved in perfect condition and free of cracks. The wonderful flames of the one-piece back and ribs of maple "cut from the slab" and the delicate carving of the scroll are a testament to the experience and refined aesthetic sensibilities of its luthier. Slight varnmish craquellation enhances the old quality character of this violin, which has a compelling and mature sound. Powerful and large, voluminous and dominant, its voice fulfils soloist standards. It was meticulously set up by the specialists in our atelier and is now ready to play.
