This violin is an escpecially good sounding old Mittenwald lion head violin made around 1900. The violin bears a Johann Reiter label of 1861 that is likely not original, even though the violin being a genuine Mittenwald piece of work. The violin was made no earlier than 1880-1900. The patinated varnish is a typical Mittenwald varnish of a warm orange-brown color. The scroll is accurately carved into an elegant lion head of the Mittenwald style, superior on quality and beauty to the Saxon lion heads. The violin has been carefully restored by our luthier and is in immediate playing condition. The sound is especially good: bright and open, clear and strong, with beautiful resonance and strength and a mature character, generally even and well balanced. The violin is now offered at 50% of value as it has a small repair under the chinrest - best recommendation in the price range!
