With the mature power and dominant scope of its radiant, sweet sound, this rare master violin made by master Ernst Heinrich Roth himself showcases the beauty of the Stradivarius model, which he rendered perfectly in this modern interpretation. Crafted in the 1920's, the mature violin was produced by Ernst Heinrich Roth himself, and it reflects the great Markneukirchen master luthier’s personal examination of this Italian classic. Ernst Heinrich Roth’s analyses of the Cremonese master began no later than 1918, when he replicated the famous Guarneri now known as “Ex-Kubelík.” The precision with which he studied the famous historic instrument in the flesh, as it were, can be seen in numerous details on this fine instrument, which he made around the same time. Ernst Heinrich Roth formed the characteristic silhouette and sound holes with a steady hand and an excellent sense of style, and there are visible manifestations of his fidelity to the great template, including the beauty of the luminous varnish and the beauty of the birsdeye maple back and ribs. At the same time, he refrained from any purely aesthetic effects which would have exceeded the original, despite the fact that an imitation of the historic varnish would certainly have been appropriate, especially in the case of the Ex-Kubelík. The approach that this Ernst Heinrich Roth master violin follows is clearly not one of mere artistic mimicry, however. Instead, it is a thoroughly contemporary and musically outstanding instrument in every way, and it bears Ernst Heinrich Roth’s original brand mark with the appropriate pride. The historic patina and slight crackling which formed on the highly transparent golden-yellow oil varnish over the course of nearly 100 years further emphasises the rich character and individuality that this personality of an instrument has. This fine Ernst Heinrich Roth violin came to us undamaged and in perfectly preserved condition, and now that it has been meticulously set up by the experts at our atelier, it is ready to play. We recommend it as the powerful rare work of a master who in recent years has received the attention he deserves from demanding musicians.
