Antique French violin from around 1880, Caussin workshop. A label added later is of no significance François Caussin (1794–1866) was a talented French violin maker trained in Mirecourt who mastered the art of antiquing with great virtuosity. Around 1880, this Caussin violin was made in the family workshop, which was run by his sons François-Hippolyte and Nicolas Caussin at the time, based on a model by Michele Deconet. With it, François-Hippolyte and Nicolas Caussin proved themselves worthy successors to their father and teacher: beyond its characterful appearance, this excellently preserved violin impresses with its exceptionally good, radiant, overtone-rich, mature, and resonant sound.
