Old German violin with excellent sound qualities at the price. This beautiful Markneukirchen violin which was crafted in the 1940s in the Saxonian "capital" of violin-making, Markneukirchen, reflects the best Vogtland artisanry. It is a rare example of handcrafted production from a period before the later East Germany was in the process of socialising, industrialising and automating the manufacture of musical instruments on a wide scale. The rich coat of orange-brown spirit-oil varnish covers the exceptionally good tone woods – a top of moderately-grained spruce and a deeply flamed maple back – which the maker chose are of unusually high quality. Some unpleasant retouch work on top allow us to offer the crackfree violin at a reduced price. The violin offered here is a very well-designed Markneukirchen violin which likely comes from a small master workshop that features a bright and warm sound, rich in overtones, with resonance and a colorful tone that has some beauty in it. The fiddle has been worked over by our luthiers, and we offer it to you with minor and not further noteworthy repairs and some signs from playing in very good condition, ready to play.
