This rare antique violin stamped Maline probably comes from Guillaume Maline, an extremely interesting instrument from the hand of this interesting violin maker. In the shadow of his son Nicolas Maline, who was an outstanding bow maker and one of J. B. Vuillaume's best employees, Guillaume himself was long considered a bow maker who only occasionally built string instruments – an assessment that is clearly incorrect, as evidenced not least by the quality of the violin offered here. It is a very successful example of the classical French school and, with its mysterious darkened varnish on the top, reveals that it belongs to a completely different era. The beautifully flamed, one-piece back and the accentuated edges demonstrate the high standard at which Guillaume Maline worked. Minor repairs are not unusual for an instrument that has been played extensively for almost 250 years, and we have thoroughly checked in our specialist workshop that a peg repair carried out a long time ago does not affect the quality of this excellently preserved instrument. This rare Maline violin impresses musically with its mature, warm and rich sound. We recommend this violin to musicians who are looking for an instrument of rarity and unmistakable individuality.
