Handcrafted violin from Mittenwald, built for Robert Barth in Stuttgart around 1900 as a dealer’s or journeyman’s instrument, as indicated by the label inside. The Mittenwald violin maker based the design on the classic Stradivari style. Great emphasis was placed on high-quality materials and precise craftsmanship; the beautiful work is particularly evident in the shaping of the arch. The result is an attractive Mittenwald string instrument with excellent tonal quality. The high-quality tonewoods are coated with a transparent, red-brown varnish, and fine edge inlays adorn the back and top. The violin shows many signs of use and has a slight surface blemish on the lower part of the top caused by the bow rubbing against the case during transport. Crack-free and in excellent playing condition. The sound is clear, powerful, bright, brilliant, and rich in overtones—with very good responsiveness.
