Italian violin, Claudio Perversi, San Giuliano 2012
Italian violin by Claudio Perversi, 2012, after G. Ornati
This beautiful Claudio Perversi violin articulates the dual perspective with which its maker views the art of violin making: As a witty and highly musical creator of fine instruments – and as an experienced restorer who knows how to congenially penetrate the work of others.
Trained by the great masters of new Cremona violin making - Italian violin makers Stefano Conia, Francesco Bissolotti and Giorgio Scolari - the graduate of the famous violin making school in Cremona deepened his knowledge and skills in restoration with Andrew Dipper and from then on devoted himself to new construction and working with antique stringed instruments in roughly equal measure. The Italian violin offered here is also based on the close study of a violin by Giuseppe Ornati from 1921, which it is in no way inferior to, both aesthetically and in terms of sound. The medium grained spruce of the top and the strongly flamed maple of the back, ribs and scroll shine under the thinly applied golden yellow varnish in the Cremonese style. The finely cut, narrow purfling and the beautiful finish of the scroll, corners and purfling reflect Perversi's individual style in his exploration of ornamentation. Preserved crack-free with few traces of use, this violin is in excellent condition and impresses discerning musicians with the overtone-rich delicacy of its bright sound, which is sweet in the upper range and impressively mature and clear in the lower registers. A highly recommended piece from our collection of young Italian violins of excellent provenance, which also have great potential as an investment.
