This fascinating Italian violin is a work of the highest quality by Luigi Galimberti, built in his own Milan workshop during his active period. As a particularly distinctive instrument from this renowned workshop, it reflects the close collaboration that Luigi Galimberti maintained from 1900 onward with an elite circle of contemporary masters centered around the brothers Riccardo and Romeo Antoniazzi. At the time of its creation, the typical model was already fully developed; outstanding violin makers such as Luigi Galimberti and Ambrogio Sironi, as students of the Antoniazzi brothers (who died in 1913 and 1922), continued the exclusive Milanese tradition, which finds its unmistakable expression in this violin’s closely spaced F-holes. The excellent craftsmanship of this slender model, for which fine tonewoods were used, reveals the consistently high standard at which Luigi Galimberti worked during this period: Fine- to medium-grained spruce of first-class quality was selected for the top, and beautiful, flamed maple for the two-piece back and sides—covered with a gold-orange oil varnish that defines the violin’s tasteful, harmonious appearance. The large, expressive scroll is a confident statement of this instrument’s Italian heritage. With two minor repairs in the lower part of the top—generously factored into the price and to be expected on a well-played violin nearing 100 years of age—this classic Galimberti violin is in good condition, prepared for playing in our workshop. Its warm, bright tone captivates with an Italian character and a soft, sweet note. Included in the price is a certificate from Carlson & Neumann, Cremona.
