This rare beauty of a Klingenthal violin was crafted by a member of the famous family of violin makers, the Hopfs. It is a top-quality master violin from the late 18th century around 1800. It is a distinctive yet unmistakable interpretation of a violin model attributed to Caspar Hopf, the pater familias of the dynasty; the character is evident in the expressively shaped scroll and the eye-catchingly positioned corners of the C-bouts. The one-piece back of maple has an interesting grain that makes it naturally unique; only confident, experienced masters would select such a piece for violin making. The luminous reddish golden-brown varnish leaves no doubt as to the provenance of the violin. As is the case with many historic rarities, some repairs can be seen on the top, although they have been well reinforced. The repaired condition allow us to offer this fine antique master violin at a very competetive price. Our luthiers, who are specialists in restoring historic instruments, have made this violin ready to play. It has good acoustic properties which honour the solid reputation of historic Hopf master violins. Its voice is precise and colourful; it has developed a mature sound with a sophistricaed character.
